When Your Body Begins Trusting It Can Spend Energy Again

By the time someone reaches Phase 4, the body has become more stable. The nervous system is less protective, the immune system is calmer, and the rhythms that coordinate repair are becoming more consistent. Now the body can begin addressing something that has often been misunderstood throughout chronic illness: energy production.

Many people assume fatigue means the body isn’t making enough energy. While that can certainly happen, it is often only part of the story.

Your cells constantly decide how much energy they can safely produce and where that energy should be used. When the body has spent months or years in a protective state, those decisions become increasingly conservative. Energy is directed toward maintaining essential functions while anything considered non-essential—exercise, recovery, growth, or repair—is postponed until conditions improve.

This is why many people describe having enough energy to get through the day, but not enough to truly live it.

They can complete necessary tasks but have little left for exercise, hobbies, travel, or time with family. Others notice they feel better after resting, only to “crash” after doing a little too much.
